SDSU was late to build a softball program in talent rich Southern California, but much of the groundwork for the future is in place from the success Christina Ross helped bring the program over the last three years.

Ross, from Santa Clarita, became only the second Aztecs player to earn All-American honors when she was named a second-team All-American. Teammate Erin Flores was the first SDSU All-American as a first-team pick in 2006.

The All-American honors followed being named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second time in three years. As a senior, she led SDSU to a fourth MWC title and fourth straight trip to the NCAA tournament.

The 2008 season, which ended with a loss to Fresno State in the NCAA tournament, was the most successful in school history. The Aztecs set school records for wins (44) and winning percentage (.721, 44-17).

Ross posted a 30-14 record with a 1.00 ERA in 293 2/3 innings pitched and 14 shutouts. She struck out a school record 275 batters. For her career, she holds school records for shutouts (23) and strikeouts.
