Inducted in 1974. Rube Powell, a retired Navy Chief Petty Officer who became a San Diego resident in 1948, dominated the sport of archery for five years during the 1950s.
He won National Federation of Archery Championships in 1951, 1953, 1954, 1955, and 1956, finishing second in 1957 and 1958. That streak of consistency was unequaled by any other modern day bowman.
At one time, he held all the national records for marksmanship with a bow and arrow. His competitive career was honored with his election to the National Archery Hall of Fame in Grayling, Michigan.
