Inducted in 1992. Art Powell was All-Southern California in both football and basketball at San Diego High School in 1954-1955, and excelled in both sports at San Jose State University.
He had an outstanding 12 year professional football career in three leagues: Canada’s CFL from 1957-1958, the NFL as defensive back for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1959, receiver for the Minnesota Viking in 1968, and the American Football League from 1960-1967.
An AFL All-Star his four years with the Oakland Raiders (1963-1966), he led the league with 1,304 receiving yards and 16 touchdown catches in 1963 as the Raiders went from 1-13 in 1962 to 10-4.
He held AFL records of four touchdown catches in one game and 81 career touchdown receptions.
