Junior Robles, a boxing coach and mentor for San Diego youth, died in a 1980 plane crash in Poland while traveling as a coach with a team of U.S. amateur boxers.

Robles was the founder of the Community Youth Athletic Association in National City. In February 2008, a street in National City was named “Junior Robles Road” to honor his community work.

In honor of his achivements and dedication, the San Diego Hall of Champions posthumously award Junior Robles the Ernest H. Wright Sr. Humanitarian Award for 2009.
