Philip Rivers and Mike Scifres share a couple of head-scratching distinctions in the 2008 season. Both have been ranked among NFL leaders at their positions throughout the season, but were overlooked in the voting for the Pro Bowl.

Rivers finished 2008 leading the league in passing efficiency with a rating of 105.5. He was the only quarterback with a rating over 100. Scifres led the league most of the season in net punting average.

But something else Rivers and Scifres share is another trip to the NFL playoffs. Rivers threw for 4,009 yards and 34 touchdowns for the season, and Scifres aided the Chargers’ field position with his punts en route to a third straight AFC West title.

Rivers completed 312-of-478 passes for a completion percentage of 65.3. He had only 11 interceptions against his 34 TDs. He and Dan Fouts are the only Chargers quarterbacks to top 4,000 yards passing in a season.

Congratulations to both on becoming the Breitbard Hall of Fame’s 2008 Professional Stars of the Year.
