Willie O'Ree to present Star of Month plaques
Breitbard Hall of Famer Willie O'Ree, the Jackie Robinson of hockey, will present Star of the Month plaques to high school athletes on behalf of the Hall of Champions on Tuesday, April 8 during Sports at Lunch at the HOC in Balboa Park.
O'Ree, who has lived in San Diego since he first played for the San Diego Gulls in 1967, broke the color line in the National Hockey League 50 years ago this season with the Boston Bruins. He was inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame on March 4 at the 62nd annual Salute to the Champions dinner. He is the NHL's Directory of Diversity programs.
ESPN X Games Executive Director Jack Weinert, ESPN Emmy Award-winning producer Phil Orlins and motocross rider Brian Deegan will speak at Sports at Lunch about the Moto X World Championships April 12-13 at Qualcomm Stadium.
