San Diego High's Jeremy Tyler has been named the State Sophomore Player of the Year by CalHiSports.com after leading the Cavers to their first CIF San Diego Section Division I title since 1975.

Tyler, a 6-foot-11, 255-pounder that can run the floor and hit a mid-range jumper, averaged 18 points and 14 rebounds a game. The Cavers finished the year ranked No. 1 in the San Diego Section after defeating former No. 1 El Camino in the CIF San Diego Section Division I final, 74-68, in overtime.

From CalHiSports.com:

It's a scary thought indeed for opponents to think about facing this 6-11, 255-pound underclassman for two more years. Tyler, a first-team All-San Diego Section pick, averaged 18 points, 14.5 rebounds, and just under eight blocks a game for the Cavers. After a terrible first game in which he had zero points in a matchup vs. Renardo Sidney and Fairfax, Tyler bounced back to have nine triple-doubles on the year and grabbed double-digit rebounds in all 28 games as the Cavers went undefeated in Eastern League play and captured their first San Diego Division I section title, defeating El Camino of Oceanside, 74-68 in overtime, for their first section title since 1975. Tyler had 23 points and 21 rebounds in that game. He's regarded as not only the top sophomore this year in California, but some think he could very well be the top Class of 2010 recruit in the nation.

The rest of CalHi's all-state teams will be announced soon.
