Greg Oden's Diary -- Feb. 1, 2006

On the NBA.
Greg Oden’s McDonald’s All-American High School All-Star Game Diary
February 1, 2006

One question a lot of people ask me is about playing in the NBA because so many high school players have skipped college and jumped to the NBA in recent years.

The NBA passed a new rule for the 2006 draft that requires high school players to wait one year until they’re eligible for the draft. But the new rule has nothing do with my decision.

I signed a national letter-of-intent with Ohio State and I’m looking forward to going to college and playing college basketball. One of my Ohio State teammates will be my high school teammate, Mike Conley. He's our point guard.

I always wanted to go to college. My basketball game is not at that level to go to the NBA right now. I’ll wait until after playing in college before I think about playing in the NBA.

When it is time for me to go to the NBA, I want to be able to make a big impact. I don’t want to just go to the league. I want to actually do something in the league.

The NBA will have to wait. The only basketball on my mind right now is our high school season.

I hope to be picked for the McDonald’s All-American High School All-Star Game because it would be a great honor.

So if you see me in San Diego, you can ask me about the McDonald’s game. But please don’t ask me about the NBA. I’m looking forward to the college basketbal and the college experience at Ohio State.

Lawrence North season update

Games Jan. 23-29

The Wildcats improved to 16-0 and could be headed to history in the Hoosier State. North extended its two-season winning streak to 32 games with two victories last week -- by 69-38 over city rival Warren Central and by 76-55 over Center Grove.

If the Wildcats run the unbeaten table with a third straight state title, it would hike its mark to 45 in a row to match the state record of 45 straight wins posted by the legendary Crispus Attucks team of 1955 and 1956 which were led by Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson.

In the win over Warren Central, 7-foot Greg Oden and guard Mike Conley each scored 21 points in three quarters while Oden had 14 rebounds. Against Center Grove, Oden had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Conley contributed 23 points.
