2007 CIF Football Championships
Div. I
Poway def. Rancho Buena Vista 21-7.

Poway extended the first unbeaten season in school history through the end of the San Diego Section playoffs with a 21-7 win over Rancho Buena Vista, and now the Titans will see if they get a chance to play one more game in a CIF State Bowl game. The Titans scored first with an 11-play, 84-yard drive on a 3-yard run by junior running back Nick Ricciardulli for a 6-0 lead with 7:31 left in the second quarter. Ricciardulli scored again on a 34-yard run and quarterback Tynan Murray added a two-point conversion run for a 14-0 lead with 1:19 left in the first half. A fumble by RBV allowed Poway to score another touchdown with 33 seconds left in the half on a 10-yard pass from Murray to slotback Jared Relyea for 21-0 halftime advantage. RBV got on the board with 2:20 remaining in the third quarter when senior Noah Jackson burst up the middle for a 14-yard touchdown run to make it a 21-7 game. Poway stopped RBV's final drive at the Titans' 15-yard line with a fourth-down stop and then ran out the clock to clinch the win.

Div. II
Oceanside def. Mission Hills 26-7

Oceanside put in its bid for a State Bowl berth after winning its 11th straight game with a 26-7 win over Mission Hills. The Avocado League champions improved to 11-1 with their only loss the season opener against Heilx in junior quarterback Jordan Wynn's first start. The Pirates controlled the game's momentum throughout the first half en route to a 17-0 halftime lead. Senior wide receiver Frankie Zimmerman caught a 13-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter and senior running back Armani Taylor scored on a 3-yard run in the second period before Jose Velasquez booted a 25-yard field goal with 2:03 remaining in the first half. Oceanside added a 43-yard field goal by Velasquez in the third quarter for a 20-0 lead. Mission Hills scored a 35-yard pass from quarterback D.J. Zapata to Vince Misa-Amituanai, but Oceanside answered with a 43-yard touchdown reception by senior wide reciever Lamont Enyard. Taylor finished the night with 27 carries for 160 yards. Wynn completed 19 of 28 passes for 239 yards and two touchdown tosses. Zimmerman caught four balls for 54 yards and Enyard three for 63.

Div. III
Cathedral Catholic def. Point Loma 41-3

Cathedral, the Eastern League champion, won its seventh straight game to improve to 10-2 with a 41-3 win over Point Loma. The Dons scored early and often in contrast to a 18-11 win over the Pointers in the second week of the regular season in a non-league game. Junior running back Tyler Gaffney scored on a 19-yard run and Parker Hipp scored a 26-yard pass and a 10-yard pass from senior quarterback Nick Russell for a 21-0 lead. Point Loma's only points came on a 27-yard field goal by Steven Padilla with 1:49 left in the second quarter. Cathedral's three second-half touchdowns came on Russell's touchdown passes of 46 yards to Gaffney, 23 yards to Matt Moynihan and Kyle Boyce's 6-yard return of a fumble. Gaffney finished with 17 carries for 102 yards and caught two passes for 49 yards.

Div. IV
Valley Center def. Mission Bay 26-0.

Valley Center won its third section title in four years with a 26-0 win over Mission Bay in the final CIF championship game played on Dec. 8 at USD's Torero Stadium. Tyler Bernard completed 18 of 29 passes for 260 yards and James Johnson caught five passes for 122 yards. The game was scoreless until the third quarter when Johnson scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass.

Div. V
Bishop's def. Christian 17-7

Bishop's remained unbeaten with a 12-0 record and hopes for a CIF Div. III bowl game. The Knights scored two second half touchdowns to overcome Christian's 7-3 lead early in the third quarter. Bishop's senior running back/defensive back Tim Costello kicked a 31-yard field goal for a 3-0 lead and scored on a 2-yard run for a 10-7 lead in the third quarter before the Knights added an insurance touchdown with 4:28 remaining in the game on a 2-yard pass from senior quarterback Tommy Wornham to freshman tight end/linebacker Micha Seau. Costello's field goal was the only scoring in the first half. Christian senior running back Lawrence Walker scored the Patriots' touchdown on 6-yard run for a 7-3 lead early in the third quarter. He finished the game with 21 carries for 98 yards to rank fourth all-time in the San Diego Section with 5,013 career yards rushing in three-plus seasons. Christian finished with an 11-1 record (one loss was reverd to a win by forfeit. The game served as an unofficial decider of the Coastal League title since both teams were an unbeaten 3-0 in Coastal play. They were schedule to play on Oct. 26, but the game was canceled becasue of the wildfires that swept through San Diego.
