Last week: The San Diego Section's Division I champions won their playoff opener with a 76-64 win at home over Hemet West Valley, but the Cavers' season came to an end on the road with a 97-83 loss at Compton Dominguez. Against West Valley, the Cavers received 22 points from guard Patrick McCollum, 20 points from guard James Tyler and 19 points from sophomore center Jeremy Tyler. San Diego High's CIF title was the school's first in boys basketball since 1975.

Last week: The ascent of Hoover basketball in the San Diego Section continued for the San Diego Section's Division II champions with an 81-78 win over Ontario Colony in the Cardinals' playoff opener. Corey Trisby scored 22 points to lead the win. But Hoover's season came to an end in the regional semifinal with a 69-58 loss to Fresno Edison.

Last week: El Camino rebounded from its overtime loss to San Diego High in the San Diego Section Section Division I final to win its playoff opener against Clovis East before falling the next night at Woodland Hills Taf. El Camino junior Luke Evans scored 30 points to lead the win over Clovis East. Senior Nelson Rosario added 16 points. In the 23-point loss to Taft, Evans scored 22 points and senior point guard Demetrius Love 21, but no one else scored in double figures.
