Last week: La Jolla Country Day was unable to win a state title for the first time since the 2002 season as the Torreys fell in the state final to Vallejo St. Patrick/St. Vincent, 67-65. It's the third straight state Division IV state final that LJCD has lost after winning back-to-back state titles in 2001 and 2002 with future Stanford All-American Candice Wiggins. LJCD's flight from San Diego to Sacramento was delayed and players were forced to get on three different planes to make the trip. Some players arrived just before tipoof, although Torreys coach Terri Bamford didn't use the travel snafu as an excuse. The Torreys took and 11-point lead into the fourth quarter before falling victim to a comeback. Arizona State-bound center Janae Fulcher led the Torreys with 23 points and 10 rebounds and USD-bound guard Dominique Conners scored 21 points.
