The USD-SDSU basketball rivalry was renewed for a 38th meeting as SDSU beat USD, 79-76, on Nov. 29 at San Diego State's Cox Arena. This was the fourth straight year the Hall of Champions hosted Sports at Lunch before the big game with the rival coaches.

Six players also attended and signed autographs for about 200 boys and girls from youth groups, including a table sponsored by San Diego State three-time All-American Marshall Faulk of the St. Louis Rams. John Wooden and Morgan Wootten, basketball coaching legends, spoke at the Hall of Champions on March 27, 2006 for Sports at Lunch. Wooden and Wootten are chairmen for the McDonald's All-American High School All-Star Game that was played March 29 at San Diego State's Cox Arena.
