CIF Sports at Lunch, Bob Scanlan
Bob Scanlan, a Major League Baseball pitcher for nine seasons, spoke to coaches and athletes at the CIF press conference for baseball, softball and track and field on May 25 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
The press conference preceded the CIF San Diego Section finals in baseball, softball and boys and girls track and field.
The baseball finals are June 3 at San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium, the softball finals are at San Diego State's softball stadium on May 27 and the boys and girls track and field finals are May 27 at Mt. Carmel High.
Scanlan was a right-handed pitcher for nine years in the Majors and 20 seasons overall in professional ball. He was a UCLA recruit out of Harvard High (now Harvard-Westlake) in the Los Angeles area before he was drafted in the 25th round and signed.
Scanlan, who had his best season in 1992 with the Chicago Cubs when he led the team in saves, provides post-game analysis on the Mighty XX Padres post-game show with John Kentera.
He spoke to the athletes about sports, his baseball experiences and academics.
