Sports at Lunch, Jerry Coleman with his new book
Padres broadcaster Jerry Coleman, who is a war hero, a World Series MVP and San Diego sports icon from as a Padres broadcaster, spoke and signed books at Sports at Lunch on May 21 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
Coleman spoke on his new book: "An American Journey: My Life On the Field, In the Air and On the Air."
Ted Leitner, Coleman's long-time partner on Padres' broadcasts, served as the moderator.
In 2005, Coleman was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown when he received the Ford C. Frick Award for his work as a broadcaster.
In his playing days, the New York Yankees second baseman was the 1949 Associated Press Rookie of the Year and the 1950 World Series MVP. Coleman also was inducted into the Marine Corps Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. He is the only Major League Baseball player that flew combat missions in both World War II and Korea.
Coleman's appearance will include a question-and-answer period and a book signing.
The Hall of Champions is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization and tickets are tax deductible.
