Sports at Lunch, Don Coryell with quarterbacks Dan Fouts and Brian Sipe

Don Coryell, San Diego's legendary coach with the Chargers and San Diego State, appeared at Sports at Lunch on May 20 with two of his legendary quarterbacks, Dan Fouts and Brian Sipe, at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park. Fred Dryer served as the moderator. Click on photos for larger images.

Don Coryell, San Diego's legendary football coach with the Chargers and San Diego State, appeared at Sports at Lunch with two of his legendary quarterbacks, Dan Fouts and Brian Sipe.

The special event was May 20 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.

Fred Dryer, an All-American defensive end for Coryell at San Diego State, served as moderator.

All four San Diego football legends are members of the Breitbard Hall of Fame. Fouts was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Coryell and Dryer into the College Football Hall of Fame.

Fouts and Sipe earned the NFL Player of the Year awards in back-to-back seasons, with Fouts winning in 1979 and Sipe in 1980 with the Cleveland Browns.

Coryell and Fouts led the Chargers to thhree straight AFC West titles from 1979 to 1981 and a fourth playoff trip in 1982.

Sipe set numerous passing records at SDSU and in 1972 led Coryell's Aztecs to a 10-1 record and Pacific Coast Athletic Association title.

Dryer was a two-time Pro Bowler in a 13-year NFL career with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams and later was an actor/director/producer for the long-running TV hit series, "Hunter."
