SCIFCA presents award to HOC's Tom Shanahan
The Southern California Interscholastic Football Coaches Association has named San Diego Hall of Champions Media Coordinator and Website writer Tom Shanahan the recipient of its 2006 Braven "Bud" Dyer Jr. SCIFCA Media Award.
The honor is presented to a media member for his work covering high school sports. The award is named for the late Los Angeles Times sports editor and was presented on Jan. 13 at the SCIFCA clinic and banquet at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Fullerton.
Shanahan is a 28-year veteran of covering sports in San Diego. The SCIFCA Media Award is for his coverage of high school sports and as a coordinator of the high school awards programs from the Hall of Champions and the All-CIF awards from the CIF San Diego Section office.
His work also includes writing a column for voiceofsandiego.org, contributing to John Kentera’s High School Sports Show on the Mighty XX sports talk radio station in San Diego and writing for www.calhisports.com.
Shanahan has won numerous writing awards as well as honors from the San Diego Chapter of the USA Track and Field and the High School Sports Association of San Diego.
