On a plane to San Diego, awaiting his first appearance in the Major Leagues, Tony Gwynn Sr. said he was thinking one thing: "I hope I don't have to face Steve Carlton my first Major League at bat." Tony Gwynn Jr. had a different kind of anxiety flying to his first Major League game.
