The Naval Academy followed up its win over Notre Dame with a win over North Texas to accept an automatic berth in the Dec. 20 San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl at Qualcomm Stadium.

Phil McConkey visited the Hall of Champions on Oct. 11 to present Star of the Month plaques to high school athletes on behalf of the HOC as a Holiday Bowl Hall-of-Famer. Hoover High quarterback Corey Trisby received his plaque from McConkey for the month of September. HOC photo: Darryl Wheeler.
