Two Super Bowl champions are among the San Diegans named Breitbard Stars of the Month.

Professional

Ted Johnson (Football, Patriots) – Johnson, a former standout while at Carlsbad High, helped the Patriots to a third Super Bowl titld in four years. Johnson, who was a member of all three of those championship teams, had 8 tackles in the AFC Championship game against the Steelers, and 3 tackles in the Super Bowl Victory over the Eagles.

Stephen Neal (Football, Patriots) – Neal, a former star wrestler at San Diego High, started the entire season on the offensive line for the Super Bowl Champions Patriots. Neal, who never played college football, was a two-time NCAA wrestling champion. Although this was Neal's first season as a full-time starter, he has been with the Patriots on all three Super Bowl championship teams.

Amateur

Jared Dudley (Basketball, Boston College) – Dudley, who was runner-up for Big East Freshman of the Year last season, is enjoying an even better season as a sophomore for the Big East leading Eagles. In January Dudley was selected as the Sporting News (national) Player of the Week and as the Big East Co-Player of the Week helping Boston College get through the month of January with a perfect record. For the season, the former Horizon star is averaging 16.4 ppg., and 7.7 rpg.

Brandon Gay (Basketball, USD) - During the month of January Brandon averaged a team-best 18.4 ppg to go with 6.3 rpg for the 2-5 Toreros. He converted 56% from the field (42x75), 50% from 3-point range (14x28) and 83.8% from the free throw line (31x37). Gay also chipped in with 12 assists and 8 steals and scored over 20 points on four occasions with a best of 26 points against Pepperdine.

Candice Wiggins (Basketball, Stanford) – Wiggins, a freshman guard for Stanford, had a exceptional month of January. She was twice named Pac-10 Player of the Week, leading the Cardinal to first place in the Pac-10 and a #4 national ranking. For the season Wiggins, who was recently named to the 20-player midseason Wooden Award List, is averaging 17.0 ppg., and 4.3 rebounds, and is the team leader in assists (60) and steals (61).

Marvell Wynne (Soccer, UCLA) – Wynne, a former Poway standout, recently named to the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team, was selected the Chevrolet Man of the Match in the US team’s 2-0 victory over Panama. The win guaranteed the US a spot in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship in Holland.

Prep

Matt Adams (Basketball, Escondido) - Adams, a 5-11 junior guard, averaged 26.1 points as the Cougars went 7-0 in Valley League play. The section's leading scorer, Adams finished with 30 or more points three times, including 39 – his second-highest total of the season – against La Costa Canyon.

Chase Budinger (Basketball, La Costa Canyon) - Budinger, a 6-foot-7 junior wing, scored a career-high 51 points in a 96-86 loss to perennial power Santa Ana Mater Dei, ranked No. 25 in the nation by USA Today. For the season Budinger is averaging just over 27 points per game.

Bethany Harris (Wrestling, Valley Center) - Harris, a senior, captured the 132-pound title of the girls state wrestling championships in Vallejo. In the final, she defeated Ramona's Jessica Jauck 3-0.

Jamie Klages (Soccer, Coronado) - Klages, a senior who has accepted a scholarship to Nebraska, was perfect at goalkeeper last month, collecting 22 saves without allowing a goal. Behind Klages, who also plays volleyball and runs track, the No. 6-ranked Islanders (19-0-2) finished the month with a 6-0-1 record.

Todd Schavrien (Poway, Wrestling) - Schavrien was named the outstanding wrestler in the lightweights after winning the 125-pound title at the 40th annual Five Counties Tournament with a 7-4 victory in the finals. The junior also won an individual title in the 125-pound weight class at the Monte Vista Tournament, where he was again named the tournament's most outstanding lightweight wrestler.

Jerica Williams (Basketball, Mount Miguel) - The 5-9 junior guard, averaged 17.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists as the top-ranked Matadors went 8-0 in January. Mount Miguel's team is built around defense, for which Williams has contributed an amazing average of 8.2 steals a game.
