The Amateurs feature a World University Games and NCAA softball champion, an international soccer veteran, a mountain cycler and an OTL record setter. The preps are highlighted by a national champion in volleyball, an Aflac All-American in baseball, a football all-star game MVP and a top girls basketball player. The Stars of the Month are invited the Hall of Champions’ 61st annual Salute to Champions dinner at a date to be announced in mid-February at the Town and Country Resort. The June Stars of the Month feature a National League Pitcher of the Month, a minor-leaguer with a major-league home run, an Olympic gold medalist in track running fast times, a local golf pro winning a prized local tournament, a college national player of the year in water polo, a high school national player of the year in volleyball, national champions in golf, rugby and track, college All-Americans in baseball and softball, an NCAA all-regional baseball selection, state-meet medalists in track and CIF Players of the Year and All-CIF picks in golf, tennis, baseball and softball. The Stars of the Month receive a plaque and invitation to the 61st Salute to Champions dinner at the Town and Country Resort Hotel. A mid-February date will be announced soon.

The Stars of the Month include a Padres sparkplug, a Padres legacy, a former Padres draft pick, two tennis senior champions based in La Jolla, a Nextel Cup leader, college all-conference players, an NAIA champion, a junior college All-American now playing for pay and high school champions in baseball, softball, swimming, lacrosse and volleyball. The Breitbard April Stars of the Month include San Diego’s hometown kid at first base for the Padres, a Master of golf, two marathoners on the world scene, a big-wave surfer and a second-generation NBA star among the pro athletes. The amateurs include a Golden Glove boxer, an All-American in water polo, a conference Freshman of the Year in softball and golf and baseball players with a no-hitter and a hot bat. The high school honorees include two UCLA recruits, a Stanford recruit, an Arizona recruit and two juniors bound to earn scholarships a year from now.
