The Wave

The Wave's Kelly Reeves received her July plaque on Aug. 13 from Dick Enberg. Reeves, a junior in the fall at Cathedral Catholic, led the Wave Volleyball Club to the 2008 Junior Olylmpics national title for the 16-and-under divison. Her month included winning a gold medal with the USA Youth National team in Puerto Rico and winning a Junior Olympics beach volleyball national title in the 16-and-under division. La Jolla Country Day alumnus Candice Wiggins (left) presented a Star of the Month plaque to LJCD's Ariana Elegado, a junior in the fall for the Torreys' girls basketball team. Elagado worked as a camp counselor for the Candice Wiggins Summer Basketball Camp Aug. 1-3 at LJCD. Elgado averaged 10 points a game and four assists when she led LJCD to the highest finish among San Diego high schools in the 22nd annual San Diego Classic, the largest high school girls basketball tournament in the nation. Dick Draz (left), a San Diego water polo coaching legend, presented San Diego's Moriah van Norman with a Star of the Month plaque on behalf of the Hall of Champions on July 6 when van Norman and the USA Olympic women's water polo team played Australia in an exhibition match at La Jolla High's Coggan Family Aquatic Complex. Van Norman scored two goals in the Americans' 12-11 loss to Australia. Van Norman, a four-time Star of the Month, was honored for April 2007 when she helped the U.S. beat Australia to win the 2007 World Championships gold medal.
