Hoover High’s Damonte Holiday and Ramona’s Kailey Hill were selected the San Diego Section Athletes of the Year at the 8th Annual Prep Athletes Award Gala before close to 300 at the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Multi-sport athletes both, Holiday edged Cathedral Catholic’s Brady Aiken and Eastlake’s Wes Braddock while Hill finished ahead of La Costa Canyon’s Emma Abrahamson and Mt. Miguel’s Talisha Dozier.

Holiday was a first team All-CIF defensive back and a second team member of the basketball team.  Hill exceled in three sports—golf, basketball and softball, where she was a first team All-CIF selection.

Two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Monique Henderson, a 2012 Breitbard Hall of Fame inductee, challenged all of the high school athletes on hand not to take their abilities for granted and to push themselves to even greater success on and off the field in college.

Additionally, Southwest High’s Giovanni Medina and Canyon Crest’s Rebecca Kingsbury were names Coaches of the Year and Mar Vista’s Jimmie Hill and Del Norte’s Caitlin Cole were the Student-Athletes of the Year.
