Quite simply, there was not a better volleyball player in the West Coast Conference than the 6-foot-1 junior from Hemet. Being selected the WCC Player of the Year clearly confirmed that.
Troost led the Toreros to a 18-7 record with 357 kills, while hitting at a .316 clip and a WCC-leading 39 service aces. Along the way, she had 34 kills in a match against Santa Clara, tying the league best for a five-set match and equal to the No. 4 spot all-time in the USD record book.
It was Troost’s second straight WCC first team appearance, setting up next fall which will be her senior season.
“We had so many injuries this year that when at the end of the season we got healthy and really started to jell and mesh, it was amazing,” said Troost, an English major who plans to work in speech therapy when her volleyball career is over.
“These awards are nice but I really try to focus on the team. Although they were key players, we only lose two seniors and (because of the injuries) our freshmen who don’t normally get to play gained a lot of experience, so we’re already looking forward to next year.”
In December, Troost was named second-team All-America by the America Volleyball Coaches Association.
