Mission Bay High’s multi-record setting quarterback Dillon Baxter and Oceanside High defensive lineman Thomas Molesi top the All-CIF football team selected under the auspices of the San Diego Hall of Champions.

The 6-foot, 205-pound Baxter, who is expected to sign with USC on Feb. 3, led the Buccaneers to an unbeaten 13-0 season and the San Diego Section Division IV title, scoring seven touchdowns and rushing for 384 yards in the 48-17 victory over two-time defending champion Valley Center.

During the season, Baxter rushed for a single-season section record 2,984 yards, passed for another 1,713 yards and combined for a state record 76 touchdowns rushing (50) and passing (26).

Counting all of Baxter’s contributions, he amassed 4,225 yards and 79 touchdowns this past season.

Defensive linemen don’t always produce such glittering statistics but, like Baxter, the 6-2, 280-pound Molesi was a unanimous selection to head the defensive team.

With Molesi anchoring the line, the Pirates went 14-0, allowing just 97 points during the regular season en route to capturing the State Bowl Championships Division I title over Bellarmine Prep of San Jose, 24-19, and their unprecedented sixth straight section Division II championship.

In fact, with Molesi leading the defense the last three years, the Pirates had not lost a game in their last 39 starts, having only a tie blemish their record.

Molesi, who committed to Oregon State, was also part of the Pirates team that became the San Diego Section’s first Bowl champion when they won the Division II title in 2007.

Four other Pirate defenders – linebackers Jake Fely and Rene Siluano, lineman Kenny Galeai and back King Holder—were joined by wide receiver Jerry Whittaker, giving Oceanside six All-CIF first team players.

Eastlake High’s John McFadden, who guided the Titans (11-0-2) to their first-ever Division I championship following a 21-14 victory over Vista, was named the Coach of the Year.
