The Victor Dean Show turned into the Dillon Baxter Show as Mission Bay rallied from down 31-14 to hand Lincoln its first loss of the season, 41-34, spoiling the Hornets’ homecoming.
Dean and Dillon were spectacular.
The 6-foot-6 Dean caught 14 passes for a CIF San Diego Section record 329 yards, surpassing the previous best of 326 by El Capitan’s A.J. Conti in 2006.
He had touchdowns of 66, 43, 54 and 3 yards before intermission but was kept out of the end zone in the second half.
That’s when Baxter led the 5-0 Bucs, ranked 9th in the Union-Tribune poll and No. 10 by the Sportswriters/Sportscasters, to three straight touchdowns to close out the scoring.
Baxter finished with close to 600 total yards as he rushed for 268 and a pair of TDs, including the game-winner from two yards out with 4:59 remaining in the game.
The USC recruit also passed for 277 yards and four touchdowns in addition to sealing the victory with a 41-yard return off an interception. That’s 586 total yards—a decent night’s work.
Lincoln quarterback Jake Marrion also posted some huge numbers, passing for 366 yards and three TDs but he also tossed three interceptions.
