SAN DIEGO—October 12, 2011—Hammering Top 10 Mount Miguel 49-7 combined with Oceanside tying Mission Hills has resulted in Helix becoming the unanimous No. 1 in this week’s county polls.

Both the Sportswriters/Sportscasters and the Union-Tribune determined the Scotties, whose only loss this season came in the season-opener to Eastlake, were clearly the No. 1 team after Helix, Oceanside and Eastlake took turns leading one or both of the polls.

Not only that, but the Scotties moved into the No. 1 State Bowl Championship position in Southern California for Division II according to CalHiSports, meaning if Helix were to run the table, the Scotties would probably earn their first Southern California Division II bowl game berth.

Once-tied Poway moved into No. 2 on the Sportswriters/Sportscasters poll while Oceanside slid to that spot in the Union-Tribune’s Top 10. The only newcomer in either poll was Valley Center, winners of five straight, at No. 10 in the Sportswriters/Sportscasters ratings.
