SAN DIEGO—October 25, 2011—If this were baseball, the fans would be arriving with brooms as high-scoring Helix High, winners of six straight games after a season-opening loss that was a breath away from being a victory, swept every first place vote in this week’s high school football polls.
Helix, whose only loss came in the season-opener to Eastlake, earned every first place vote in the Sportscasters/Sportswriters poll and remained atop the heap in the Union-Tribune Top 10. The Scotties remained No. 1 for the Southern California Division II Bowl berth as voted by CalHiSports.com.
There are two newcomers to the Union-Tribune Top 10 after San Pasqual suffered its second loss of the season and Valhalla was upended by Steele Canyon. In their place, La Costa Canyon, with a tougher season schedule, was rated No. 9 over Valley Center, which has a 7-game winning streak.
La Costa Canyon, which has a pair of losses to a pair of unbeaten teams--San Clemente of the Southern Section and Poway--moved in to the Sportswriters/Sportscasters list at No. 10.
