It is said that there are really three football seasons—preseason, league and playoffs. Top-ranked Oceanside and the Pirates’ pursuers will be in league play starting this week and hanging a league banner still means a lot, especially since it also affects seeding for the playoffs.

With the top three teams – Oceanside, La Costa Canyon and Cathedral Catholic – all having byes last week, the Top 10s underwent very little change as only Vista lost. That bumped the Panthers completely out of the Union-Tribune’s Top 10 and Vista is barely hanging on at No. 10 in the Sportswriters/Sportcasters poll.

Unbeaten Ramona took Vista’s place in the UT Top 10 and the Bulldogs can certainly decide their own fate with upcoming games against unbeaten Valley Center and Oceanside in Valley League play.

Here are this week’s Top 10s. Be sure to check for scores and game stories Friday night at www.utprepsports.com and www.nctvarsity.com.
