PAOPAO, GULLEY TOP 2012 FALL FOOTBALL ALL-CIF TEAM

Athletes of Year named in 8 sports through the San Diego Hall of Champions

 

Quarterback Tofi Paopao and linebacker William Gulley of the San Diego Section Division II football champion Oceanside Pirates were selected the offensive and defensive Players of the Year by a select panel through the auspices of the San Diego Hall of Champions. All of the first and second team selections will receive their Breitbard certificates at the All-CIF Awards Night Monday, Jan. 14, starting at 7 p.m. The event will be held at the San Diego Hall of Champions.

 Paopao and Gulley led the Pirates to a 12-1 record this fall, losing only to Temecula Chaparral when many of the players were either injured or sick. Oceanside topped off its season with a 32-10 pounding of Poway.

 In all, the Pirates placed seven players on the first and second teams.

 

Additionally, Lincoln High’s second-year coach David Dunn earned Coach of the Year honors after the Hornets not only advanced to the section Division III title game but hammered Ramona 42-14 for their first title in 26 years.

Other Players of the Year included Torrey Pines’ Reily Buechler in volleyball, Vista’s Ryder Roberts in boys water polo, Scripps Ranch’s Sydney Earle in field hockey, Torrey Pines’ Sandy Choi in golf, La Costa Canyon’s Steven Fahy in boys cross country and schoolmate Emma Abrahamson in girls cross country.
