San Diego Sports Commission

After dispatching Valley Center last week, No. 1-ranked Oceanside will attempt to close out a perfect regular season as the Pirates host Ramona (No. 6 or 7 depending on the poll) Friday night in a game to decide the Valley League title.

Actually, the game means much more for the Pirates since it was Ramona that rallied to tie Oceanside 33-33 last year, the only non-win on their record over the past 34 games.

Not that it mattered in the polls where both the Union-Tribune and Sportswriters/Sportscasters had the Pirates No. 1 for the 10th straight week.

Actually, the two polls agreed on the top five teams heading into the CIF San Diego Section playoff selections which will be conducted Saturday morning. The playoffs start a week from Friday.

Here are this week’s Top 10s. Be sure to check for scores and game stories Friday night at www.utprepsports.com and www.nctvarsity.com. Both sites will also have the playoff pairings Saturday afternoon.
