When we updated the San Diego Hall of Champions website back in December 2008, our goal was to provide an enhanced visual presence to best articulate athletic achievement for you, our visitor. For the most part, I believe we’ve reached that goal.
There are almost 1,000 pages on sdhoc.com filled with stories of San Diegans. From amateur to professional, young and old, those who continue to persevere no matter what their physical limitations. That is why we exist and continue to honor people from all walks of life on their sports accomplishments.
The Hall of Champions is also reaching out beyond the website by utilizing social services such as:
- Twitter: “…a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”
- Facebook: “Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life.”
- Flickr: Photo sharing site
There are a lot of stories to tell and there are a multitude of ways to deliver the message. So if you aren’t following us on Twitter or aren’t one of our fans on Facebook, please take the time to join if you already use those services.
If you haven’t noticed already, but there is video glittered throughout the website, most of which can be found in our Multimedia section. Thanks to KBC Sports, we have the last two years Sports@Lunch shows on our website for your viewing pleasure. Induction speeches from Breitbard Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and Pete Newell are just a sample of what is also available.
After all is said and done, there is still a lot left to do. More pictures for our Hall of Famers are needed. Videos that are collecting dust in our archives need to be preserved digitally and then posted for everyone to see. Having notable sports celebrities write for the Hall would be fantastic. If you haven’t done so already, check out what’s going on with Christina Ross. We want to do more and believe me there are plans in place to add to our current content.
But in the end, we do want this to be a collaborative process. Are there things you would like to see us do? I’ve been thinking of putting together a Padres game program online exhibit which would scans of all the game program covers. What do you think? Something else you have in mind that we haven’t covered. Tell us by posting a comment below or you can send an email to Christian, christiand (at) sdhoc.com.
Speak up and be heard.
