Inducted in 1986. Art Luppino, an elusive halfback, led La Jolla High School to City League championships in 1951 and 1952, then set numerous national records at the University of Arizona.
As a sophomore in 1954, he rushed for a then NCAA record 1,359 yards and 24 touchdowns, scoring 166 points. The touchdown and scoring records stood for 17 years.
In 1955, he rushed for 1,313 yards, becoming the first collegian to win consecutive national rushing titles. Despite being sidelined with injuries most of his senior season, his career total of 3,381 yards set a national record that stood for 12 years.
