Inducted in 1980. “Tex” Guentert was one of the greatest football player in armed services history starring as a halfback for the West Coast Navy teams in the early 1930s, when military football was an extremely high caliber competition.
He ran with power and speed, and played tenacious defense as well.
Admiral Tom Hamilton, coach of the West Coast Navy teams and a Breitbard Hall of Fame member, recruited him for his all-star squad.
Guentert began his brilliant military football career with the Submarine Force teams in the late 1920’s, and many football experts believe he would have been an All-American if he had played college football.
