EX-AZTEC LEONARD TOPS JANUARY PRO STARS

SAN DIEGO—(Feb. 5, 2016)—When Kawhi Leonard played basketball for San Diego State, his game was marked by noticeable improvement every year.

The same is happening in San Antonio where Leonard, in his fifth season, just gets better and better. He, along with the San Diego Gulls’ Michael Sgarbossa and San Diego Sockers goalie Chris Toth were selected professional  Stars of the Month for January by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Leonard, who averaged 18.2 points a game, helped the Spurs post the second best record in the NBA, using a 10-game winning streak to go 11-2 for the month.

Sgarbossa, a 23-year-old center, scored three goals and had three assists in 10 games for the ice hockey club.

Toth stopped 92 potential goals for the Sockers who finished the month with a three-game winning streak.

On the amateur front, SDSU sophomore Trey Kell and University of Washington standout Kelsey Plum helped their respective basketball teams to strong showings.  Joining them were fellow basketball players Jamie Katuna and Adam Klie of UCSD, Point Loma Nazarene University’s Madison West and Cal State San Marcos’ Declan Daly.

High school stars included record-setting three-point shooters Luis Salgado (Foothills Christian) and Alessandra Aguirre (Bishop’s) as well as Cathedral Catholic soccer standout Olivia Erlbeck, Rancho Bernardo wrestler Chasen Blair, Torrey Pines basketball player Sierra Campisano and Mt. Carmel hoops ace Casey McWilliam.
