Devers, a Breitbard Hall of Fame member who is from Sweetwater High in National City, was the athlete host for the event along with American mile record holder Steve Scott. Henderson, from Morse High, was a Star of the Month in June for winning the 400 meters at the Reebok Grand Prix in New York City and placing third in the U.S. nationals. Devers and Henderson were both NCAA champions and All-Americans at UCLA. Henderson was a Hall of Champions Star of the Year in 2005, when Devers became the first African-American woman inducted into the Breitbard Hall of Fame at the 60th Salute to Champions dinner in February, 2006. Devers is a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the 100 meters (1992 and 1996) and Henderson ran a leg on the U.S. 1,600-meter relay that won the gold medal in 2004 in Athens. Photo: Thomas Kiefner.
