SAN DIEGO—(May 4, 2015)—San Diego Padres first baseman Yonder Alonso and pro golfer Phil Mickelson topped the list of four professionals and 17 overall Stars of the Month for April as selected by the San Diego Hall of Champions.

Alonso was among the top 10 hitters in the National League when he batted .354 with 22 hits, 8 RBI and another 8 runs scored.

Mickelson fired a 14-under par 274  at The Masters, including a fine 67 on the final day, to finish in a tie for second at Augusta National.

Longtime drag racer Ron Capps of Carlsbad captured his second Funny Car win of the season in Baytown, Texas, for his 44th career victory overall—second on the all-time list.  He was joined by Cal State University San Marcos grad James Dykstra who pitched a no-hitter for Winston-Salem in the High Single A minors.

Amateur standouts for the month included tennis player Taylor Fritz who won the ASICS Easter Bowl ITF Boys 18 singles championship, skier Rachel DesRochers who annexed the FIS Spring Series downhill competition, SDSU golfer Mila Chaves who guided the Aztecs to their first Mountain West Conference Championship, USD softball player Kailey Hill, UCSD water polo goalie Courtney Hills, Cal State University San Marcos golfer Vanessa Chap, and Point Loma Nazarene baseball player Ryan Garcia.

High school honorees were baseball players Mickey Moniak of La Costa Canyon and Dillon Paulson of Santa Fe Christian, softball pitchers Kourtney Ross of Poway and Kellie White of Mater Dei Catholic and track weight event competitors Laulauga Tausaga of Mount Miguel and Charles Lenford of Oceanside.
